Haydon School
News..........We have
received an email from Jeremy Isaacson, the
current Head Boy of Haydon School. As some of you
may know, we have several spies in Haydon who
feed us nuggets of information too scurrilous to
publish but none of them has been sharp enough to
point out that the school now has five Houses.
Jeremy has kindly informed us that they are:
Challenger, Endeavor, Discovery, Voyager, and
Pioneer all named, apparently, after Mr Cahill's
pipes.
Further information may be obtained from www.haydonschool.com.

Anyone from
1964?........We have
received an email from Kurt Eckel who attended
the school for two weeks in 1964 while staying
with Martin Cooke. Kurt has sent us some photos
from his visit which included a trip to the south
coast and would like to hear from anyone who
remembers him. Click
here for the full email. If
anyone has any stories contact the webmaster in
the JCR.

French
lessons.....Does anyone remember
French lessons taking place in the sick room
behind the stage? Apparently, at one time, a
stunning brunette with a name like "Mai
Mengelous" was involved. Can anyone shed any
further light on this??

Mrs V. Watson. Dr
Watson's wife sadly passed away on 15th January
2003. I am sure we would all wish to send our
deepest sympathies to Dr Watson and his family.

Alan
Tisdall - SNOBmaster: English 1960 - 1991.
Alan retired in 1991 and moved to south Devon to
live. He enjoyed a very happy retirement
until January 2001 when it was discovered that he
had advanced renal cancer which, until that
point, was symptomless.
|
He had aggressive
treatment but, unfortunately the cancer
progressed rapidly. He celebrated his
birthday on 6 August and his 35th wedding
anniversary on 13 August which he was determined
to do. He died on Monday 10th Septebmer
2001.
|
He is
greatly missed by his wife, Nora and their four
children, Katrina, Aidan, Olivia
and Michael. Nora keeps in touch with John
Jefford (Mathematics) and Iden Coleman (Physics)
who were at St Nicks in 1960's and 1970's.
There is a bench dedicated to Alan Tisdall in the
azalea garden within Kew Gardens. Alan was born
opposite Kew Gardens and spent a large part of
his early life in the area.

No more heroes??:
Information reaches SNOBs Towers that Jean
Jacques Burnel, bass player in 70's punk band The
Stranglers, was a pupil at St Nicks for two years
from 1963 before moving elsewhere. In those days
he went by the simpler moniker "John"
Burnel and probably hadn't discovered his
interest in rodents at that stage.
|
Reunion report:
The recent reunion for the 5th of
1979 was enjoyed by all who attended. Click here for a
report of the evening from SNOBS Special
Reporter, Graham Wheal. Click here to see
the pictures.
|
Staff list:
The list showing the entire
teaching staff over the lifetime of St. Nicks is
now pretty well complete. This mammoth task
required the detailed knowledge (and memory) of
Dr Watson, assisted by his faithful scribe, John
Hawley. We are grateful to both of them for their
efforts. Click
here to view the list.
